Apison’s Raccoon Racing Teams
General Info: Apison Elementary has an electric car racing program. We have 2 racing teams, the Raccoon Racers and the Raccoon Stars. Every year we attend the Chattanooga Green Prix, with races held in the Fall & in the Spring, where we compete against other schools in our class.
This after-school program is limited to around 18 students each year. These students must be in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade. These students are recommended by their homeroom teachers and selected by Mr. Bevil. The criteria used to select students includes academic skills, teamwork skills, and the drive to try something new! We wish everyone could participate, but team membership is limited due to the Green Prix competition requirements.
Coach Info: Jason Bevil is the lead coach for most of the STEM based after-school programs at Apison Elementary. He is the VW eLab Specialist and STEM Teacher for Apison Elementary. The VW eLab is part of the normal Related Arts rotation, allowing all students access to different robotics, coding, and engineering classroom projects.
Craig Brownstone is the second coach for the electric car program. He is one of our EX ED support teachers working with some of our 4th and 5th grade students.
